@iPhone - I can’t believe how cheap they are, in the UK we basically get £150 off, for the same contract, and same term length (18 months). However £60 will go towards my MobileMe subscription, which I think is going to be pretty impressive, all I want is the syncing, however it will be good to use the apps for inspiration.

@EntreList - Maybe we should only stick a few select tags, wipe what’s currently there, and just make sure we only use tags that are going to be used often. E.g: EntreList, External (for twitter, facebook, IILWY, etc), Wakoopa, TheWineGod, VoiceTracker. Obviously the list would be added to as we start new and exciting projects. I have a few more ideas, but will think them over before plurking them out (sounds like an appropriate phrase!) on Entrelist.

Speaking of which, I’ll just give a short run down of what I am up to at the moment. ThinkRefresh is coming along nicely, I am working on a series called Rails 101, for beginning Rails development, however there will be a lot of non-Rails Ruby content. My boss is going on a trip abroad next week to source wine for TheWineGod, and I will be beginning the e-commerce system.

I have been making a central account manager for use within a set of applications (CMS, e-commerce, issue tracking, client login etc), and in doing so I decided to port out the authentication as a plugin for Rails called Authenticaterb (http://github.com/ryantownsend/authenticaterb) which is also coming along great. I’ll soon be releasing another plugin aimed at easy to implement spam filtering.

@iPhone - Definitely getting one as soon as it gets out on July 11 Have to look into my current subscription, because it’s with a different carrier than the one Apple made an exclusive deal with.

@Plurk - Haven’t tried it yet. Any good?

@Entrelist - Maybe it would be a good idea to make ‘Recent Projects’ into a tag cloud, instead of a list. Also, I don’t think Entrelist is big enough to necessitate RSS feeds for the different ‘Projects’. The layout would look cleaner if these two changes were implemented. Finally, the quick post on the main page - when logged in - could use two things: (1) option to add a title - nice for the people who have EL in their RSS feeds (2) Make the text input field bigger, lets say twice as big? OK, those were my 2c

@iPhone. I’m so so so glad I didn’t buy a first gen now we know that the 3G will be aggressively subsidised. By doing this, Apple just made one of those moves which we always think the big cos should do, but they never seem to have the guts to carry out. I may even put in a pre-order on the O2 site today.

So, hands-up; who on EntreList won’t own an iPhone by the end of this year?

@EntreList - I may have asked a similar question before, but does anyone have any thoughts on this site? E.g. Do you have any suggestions for improving the layout? Is the input box big enough? Too many tags, maybe? Or, do you have any thoughts on the conversation?

Finally, we’ve been using the @SomeDude comment-directing convention on EntreList for a while now. Do you see any synergy with how Twitter handles the conversion to user profiles, and do you think there’s a place for this on EntreList?

@Introductions - I’m Coen Stevens, and as Peter already posted, I’m doing my PhD in AI at the Technical University of Delft. The aim of my research is to design and implement an autonomous, adaptive and context sensitive surveillance system based on a video/acoustic sensor, for which I try to implement a working model of human audiovisual perception. I’m halfway my four years PhD period, and so far I’ve focused on the visual perception part, while my colleague at TUDelft worked on the auditory part. Currently I have to work my arse off in order to meet my deadline in two weeks, and finish my paper for the summer. Next to the research I have my bookcase filled with books I still wish to read, and I want to spend more time on start-up related programming. After my PhD I intend to go for a start-up, for which I will either try to commercialize my PhD research or built a web application that everybody wants This makes me of course really interested in the discussions going on here on Entrelist and I’ll try to take part in them more often. At least I have started to post something now. So let’s see where this will lead.

@Introductions - I’m Neil Patrick Cauldwell, I have a [slightly_neglected] stealth start-up blog over at http://WebAppropriate.com, and there’s a personal blog at http://DotNeil.com. I’m too busy working under the radar on the app to write many blog posts on either of those sites, but you’ll see them pick up in the next 2 to 3 months. EntreList is now my preferred place for blogging. This is probably due to the fact that the conversation afforded by the Prologue theme is so much more fun than the traditional blog format. EntreList just flows, normal blogs don’t.

@Blockles Session - the guys at I’mInLikeWithYou have done some great things with Tetris + Power-Ups. I love how Peter has now taken to saving ALL his power-ups for all-guns-blazing Neil bashing sessions, always timed when I’m hitting in the danger zone for maximum effect.

@Coen, Mark & Taede - PhD in AI, start-up ideas, startup experiences?!! Please go wild all over EntreList, it would be great to hear more.

Wakoopa is the perfect place for people to discover software online. When you sign up, you also install a small tracker that keeps tabs on what software you use. This creates an online profile for you to share with the world, and also gives you updates and recommendations on what your friends and others are using.

Being a mathematician, I’m going to help design the theoretical base on which the engine is built, and being a hacker, I will help implement it. And while I’m at it, I’ll write my thesis on the topic ;-p More in depth posts on this topic will be appear on my personal blog http://ptegelaar.nl/.

“OK,” I hear you think, “spare me your life’s story!”. You may be right…but you could also see this as an opportunity. Let me explain. The number one reason I hear why some people are reluctant to post on EntreList goes something like this: “Yeah I like to read the posts, but why would I wanna post something myself? I hardly know any of these people…” Therefore, let’s take this as a nice chance for everyone to get to know each other a little better: tell the rest of us what you’re working on. It doesn’t have to be as rediculously awesome as building a recommendation engine of course just share your thoughts!
